Bulging Disc Treatment
The spine consists of 33 interlocking bones called vertebrae. Between each vertebrae is an intervertebral disc. Intervertebral discs have a rubber-like consistency, with a soft, gel-like center (known as the nucleus pulposus) and a thick, firm exterior (known as the annulus). These discs act as shock absorbers for the vertebrae and help to maintain the structural integrity of the spine.
When the annulus of an intervertebral disc weakens, the disc can become compressed and start to shift out of place. This results in a “bulging” disc, also sometimes referred to as a herniated disc or slipped disc. Bulging discs are very common and can result in significant neck, mid or lower back pain.
